Javid Nam — A Persian Tribute. An Eternal Name.

On January 8, 2026, in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, a firefighter named Hamid Mahdavi was filmed carrying a wounded protester on his back through streets where the Islamic Republic's security forces were firing live ammunition into crowds. He carried the injured person as far as he could. Then he was shot in the throat and killed.

He was 38 years old. He was doing his job — the only job he had ever known: saving people.

The Man Behind the Name

Hamid Mahdavi was a professional firefighter based in Mashhad and an athlete — a man shaped by service, discipline, and the instinct to protect others. When protests broke out and security forces opened fire on civilians, Mahdavi did not leave. He stayed and helped carry the wounded away from the gunfire. Witnesses and social media accounts document him spending his final hours in this way — moving back and forth through danger to bring injured people to safety.

The video of his last act went around the world. Firefighters in the United States held memorials for him. The Iranian diaspora mourned him. Digital artists and communities across Europe and North America elevated him to the status he had already earned with his body: a symbol of Persian sacrifice, courage, and humanity.

Javid Nam — جاوید نام

In Persian, Javid Nam means "Long Live the Name" or "Eternal Name." It is spoken for those who gave their lives for something greater than themselves. It is the phrase that turns a person into a legacy. For Hamid Mahdavi, it is not a slogan. It is a statement of fact: his name will not be forgotten.

For the Iranian diaspora in Europe and beyond — for those who grew up between two countries, carrying the weight of an Iran they were never allowed to hold — this sweatshirt is a way of keeping his name close. A daily act of remembrance. A refusal to let the Islamic Republic's bullet have the final word.
